The IOP is committed to working with businesses that depend on physics and physicists, and to represent their interests at the highest levels of government. Find out how we can support you and your physics-based business.
How we support physics in business
Physics-based businesses, and physicists working in business, are a valued and vital part of our community. We can support you through:
IOP Business Innovation and Growth Group
The Business Innovation and Growth Group is a member-led special interest group which supports individuals and businesses of all sizes, as well as entrepreneurs taking ideas to market.
Being a member of the group will help you and your organisation to be more innovative, knowledgeable and effective by providing you with:
- Networking, profiling and B2B development opportunities.
- Knowledge exchange activities to support industry/ academia collaborations.
- Business support, finance and affordable workspace.
Our Business Awards recognise the significant contribution that physicists and physics make in industry across all sectors and at all stages – from start-ups to multi-national corporations. The awards are a celebration of entrepreneurship, excellence in innovation and the successful implementation of physics into a product or service.
We organise regular business events and are excited to be organising the inaugural Business and Innovation Growth Group conference in our new building in London in February 2019.
Join us for a keynote lecture from a champion in innovation, followed by a panel discussion showcasing companies that have successfully taken physics-based innovations to market.
Physics is central to the UK and Ireland economies, whether through the application of cutting edge research and technologies, or through the skills and abilities of physics-trained professionals.
We are committed to representing physics-based businesses and physicists at the highest levels of government and have produced influential reports highlighting the critical contribution that physics-based businesses make to our economy.
Professional development is an excellent way to maintain and update your skills and knowledge. We offer a wide range of professional development activities for physicists in business to engage in: gaining professional registration, attending or presenting at conferences, outreach activities, committee and panel work and gaining fellowship. The career development hub is central to your CPD and maintaining your professional registration.
